Simon has a track record in the design and implementation of innovation. His background is in working with people with disabilities and in the 1980s he developed ground breaking independent living schemes for people with severe disabilities, in Islington and in Hereford & Worcester including the modernisation of day services. These both became national benchmarks.
As Principal Officer for disability services and, later, community care for Islington Social Services Simon was involved in many other leading edge developments, including user consultation, policy development and innovative joint health and social care initiatives. Examples of his work have been written up and published in "Home at Last" [Jessica Kingsley publications].
Next Simon managed joint housing and social services policy teams in Islington and, later, Haringey, covering policy, quality, joint commissioning, best value, housing association development, tenant development, race, information services, and complaints teams. As a member of the Warwick Local Government consortium and later Policy Net, Simon has continued to be a significant contributor to the emerging local government modernisation agenda and as an adviser he has helped with the delivery of modernisation is a wide variety of organisations.
Within Alder Advice Simon provides day services expertise and is often placed in organisations to project or programme manage new initiatives.
